Nebraska Citizen Corps

First Annual Nebraska CERT Conference, August 19-20, 2011

For two days, more than 30 Nebraska CERT volunteers went through Search and Rescue training in Scottsbluff. Volunteers were trained in basic search and rescue techniques by CERT trainers Bob Hessler and Randy Olson. The trainers then took all the participants to Scottsbluff National Monument, where a live search and rescue exercise was held. Lt. Governor’s Be Prepared Awards, September 15, 2011

Lt. Governor, Rick Sheehy, presented seven awards to volunteers and organizations recognized for their efforts to inform, educate, and train Nebraskans on the importance of being prepared in the event of an emergency or disaster. The 2011 Be Prepared Awards were presented to:

Scotts Bluff County Citizen Corps Council – Citizen Corps Council of the Year
Chandra Petersen (Arlington) – Local Hero Award
Fabiola Dimas (Crete) – Excellence in Community Preparedness
Shelly Penner, Mid Plains American Red Cross (North Platte) – Citizen Corps Partner Program of the Year
Geraldine Thomas (Omaha) – Citizen Corps Volunteer of the Year
Stan Coleman (Grand Island) – Excellence in Risk Communication
David Duncan (Omaha) – Excellence in Preparedness Education and Outreach
